Why a torn duct here gets expensive fast

A chewed duct in an East Foothills attic does not announce itself. It leaks conditioned air into the rafters. The system runs longer to catch up. On these dry, exposed east-facing hills with little marine cooling, afternoons are hot and AC runtime is already high.
