What a dirty coil actually costs you

A fouled evaporator coil fails quietly. Airflow drops first. Then suction pressure falls, the coil runs colder, and the condensate pan stays wet longer than it should. Wet fins plus trapped dust is how microbial growth starts, and that is the musty smell homeowners notice in August. Keep running it and you risk coil freeze-up, water overflowing the pan, and a stained ceiling under an attic air handler. Compressors do not like liquid refrigerant returning. That repair is in a different league than a cleaning.
