air duct cleaning in Palo Alto, CA

What duct cleaning looks like in a Palo Alto home

We start at the furnace, not the registers. Panel off. Blower wheel and coil get looked at first. That tells us what the ducts hold. Then registers come off, run by run. Each branch is agitated while a HEPA vacuum pulls at the trunk. Returns go last, because they carry the most.

This city splits into two different jobs. The 1920s-40s Spanish and bungalow stock usually runs duct through a crawlspace. Those runs sag, and old flex tears where plumbers have crawled past. Eichler and mid-century flat-roof homes are another matter. Original radiant slab heat means there are no ducts to clean at all. Retrofitted systems there hide in cramped roof cavities or furred soffits, and access becomes the whole job.

Marine moderation shapes the rest. Cooler summers and more fog drift than inland San Jose mean AC runs lighter, so dust settles rather than circulates. Furnaces still cycle through damp winter nights. Oak, sycamore and redwood canopy drops heavy pollen and fine organic debris that returns pull indoors.

Remodel drywall dust is the contaminant we find most. Pull your filter and shine a light into the slot. Gray powder coating bare sheet metal means it traveled past the boot. Clean metal means you can wait.

What Happens After You Call Us

Call and tell us how many supply vents and returns you have, and we give you a two-hour arrival window plus a text when the tech leaves for your address.

We walk the system first, check whether your runs are attic sheet metal or under-slab, count the vents, and hand you a firm written quote before a single register comes off.

We clean every run, seal the access cuts, vacuum up after ourselves, run the system so you can feel the airflow, and you pay the quoted number, nothing added.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Eichler has radiant slab heat and no real ductwork — is there anything to clean?

If the house is still on its original radiant slab, there's no duct system to clean, and we'll tell you that rather than find something to bill for. But a lot of Palo Alto mid-century flat-roof homes have had ducted heating or AC added later, usually run through a furred-down ceiling chase, a closet, or across the roof. Those retrofit runs can be cleaned, and they tend to need it more than you'd think, because they're often short, flexible, and sitting in spaces that collect dust. Send us a photo of your supply registers and where the air handler lives and we can usually tell you over the phone which situation you're in.

We just finished a remodel. How soon should we have the ducts cleaned?

Wait until the dusty trades are done (drywall sanding, flooring, cabinet install) and ideally until final cleanup. Drywall dust is the most common thing we pull out of Palo Alto ducts, and it's fine enough to ride past a standard filter and coat the inside of the supply runs. If the system ran at all during construction, it's in there. Cleaning mid-project just means doing it twice. The exception is if someone in the house is reacting badly to the air now; in that case we'll clean, and you can plan a lighter touch-up at the end.
