Air Duct Cleaning in Redwood City, CA

What Redwood City homes do to ductwork
The city splits by elevation. Redwood Shores sits on reclaimed marsh at the bay edge. Crawlspaces there stay damp. Bare sheet metal picks up salt air and surface rust along the seams. Uninsulated runs sweat in summer, and the drip lands on the joists below. Up in Emerald Hills the air is drier, the attics are hotter. Flex duct is usually the problem instead. It gets kinked. It sags between straps, or gets crushed where someone stored boxes.
Downtown bungalows from the 1920s through the 40s are their own job. Many were converted from gravity furnaces. The old octopus trunk stays in place, oversized and often lined with paper or fabric-wrapped scrap. A vacuum and a brush will not fix that duct. It needs replacing, and we will say so instead of cleaning it.
The 1950s and 60s ranch tracts off Woodside Road are the most predictable. Slab or shallow crawl foundation. Sheet-metal trunk line. Round branch takeoffs. Access is usually a closet platform or a hall return.
Before calling anyone, pull a floor register and look down with a flashlight. Gray felted dust on the inner wall means buildup. Standing moisture is a different conversation. Visible mold too. So is a crumbling liner. A rodent smell near a crawl-fed return belongs there as well.
What Happens After You Call Us
Call and tell us how many supply vents and returns you have, and we give you a two-hour arrival window plus a text when the tech leaves for your address.
We walk the system first, check whether your runs are attic sheet metal or under-slab, count the vents, and hand you a firm written quote before a single register comes off.
We clean every run, seal the access cuts, vacuum up after ourselves, run the system so you can feel the airflow, and you pay the quoted number, nothing added.

My ducts are original to the house, is cleaning worth it, or should they just be replaced?
It depends on what the duct is made of and where it runs. A lot of Redwood City ranch tracts from the 1950s and 60s still have solid sheet metal, and once it's cleaned out it has plenty of life left. Older flex, especially in a damp crawlspace on the bay side, is a different story. If the inner liner is torn, sagging into a low spot, or the metal collars have rusted through at the joints, cleaning won't give you back what's been lost. We look at the actual runs before quoting anything, and if a section is past saving we'll say so rather than clean around it.
Why do ducts near the bay seem to have more problems than the ones inland?
Redwood Shores and the bayfront neighborhoods sit on reclaimed marsh, and that shows up in the ductwork. Higher humidity and salt air corrode metal duct from the outside in, and any uninsulated run in a crawlspace will sweat once the air inside it is colder than the air around it. That moisture is what turns ordinary settled dust into something that smells. Inland and up toward Emerald Hills, the conditions are drier and the complaints are usually about AC-season dust and pet dander instead.
